How to Apply Your Skins
This is your step-by-step guide to installing your VR Skinz decal kit. Follow the instructions below for a clean application, proper alignment, and the option to remove and reuse your decals without damaging them.
What Each Piece Is For
- Top longest sticker – Bottom of the headset, just above your nose
- Middle oval sticker – Front of the headset (main face panel)
- Bottom arched sticker – Top of the headset, near your forehead
- Two large circles – Tops of the controllers (tracking ring area)
- Small rectangle – Wraps around the charging port
- Small red circle – Covers the front of the charging port
Before You Begin
Make sure the surface is clean and dry before applying any decals. Here's what you'll need:
- Microfiber cloth
- Rubbing alcohol or mild cleaning solution
- Hair dryer (optional but highly recommended)
- 10 minutes of uninterrupted time
Prep the surface:
- Power off your headset and controllers.
- Use a microfiber cloth and rubbing alcohol to remove any dust, oils, or residue.
- Allow everything to dry completely before applying any skins.
Application Tips
-
Start with larger pieces
Begin with the front panel oval sticker. Lightly place it without pressing down. Align it fully before applying pressure. -
Use a hair dryer on low heat
Gently warming the vinyl with a hair dryer will make it more flexible and easier to shape around curves. Hold the dryer 6 to 8 inches away and move it in slow circles for a few seconds. -
Apply pressure from the center outward
Use your thumbs or a plastic card to press the sticker from the middle outward to avoid air bubbles. -
Line up controller stickers carefully
Position the circular decals on the top of each controller. If needed, lightly warm them first for easier stretching and alignment. -
Charging port wrap tip
Apply the rectangular wrap slowly around the charging port. If any wrinkles form, gently heat and press them out.
How to Remove and Reuse
If you remove your skins carefully, you can reuse them again later.
-
Use heat first
Warm the sticker with a hair dryer for several seconds. This softens the adhesive and helps prevent tearing. -
Peel slowly at a low angle
Start from a corner and peel the skin back slowly, keeping the peel close to the surface to reduce stress on the vinyl. -
Store on wax paper or original backing
To reuse, press the decal flat onto wax paper or save the original backing it came with. -
Clean leftover adhesive
If any sticky residue remains, wipe it away with rubbing alcohol on a soft cloth.
Final Notes
- Take your time—it's better to align once correctly than to reposition multiple times.
- If you see small air bubbles, leave the skin alone for a day. They often settle on their own.
- Avoid handling or exposing the skins to moisture for the first 12 hours after application for best adhesion.
